Welcome to the all-new Web site for Patrick McDonnell’s children’s picture books. Patrick is best known as the creator of the MUTTS cartoons, which appear daily in more than 700 newspapers worldwide.

The MUTTS cartoons have been published in many books throughout the world. In 2005 Patrick began to spread their simple messages of friendship and peace to children in his first picture book, The Gift of Nothing, which was a New York Times bestseller. The MUTTS characters have since appeared in two other picture books, Just Like Heaven, which was hailed in a starred review by Kirkus Reviews as "a meditation on the true nature of miracles," and Hug Time, featuring a kitten named Jules who goes around the world hugging endangered species. Hug Time also appeared on the New York Times bestseller list in fall 2007. In fall 2008, Patrick published another children’s picture book, South, a wordless story about a little bird trying to get south, which has already received starred reviews in Publishers Weekly and School Library Journal.

In addition to his MUTTS tales, Patrick also wrote and illustrated Art, a story about a boy named Art who loves to draw and paint imaginative scenes and his mom who gives his artwork a place of honor on the refrigerator!
